The one true Beauty

Be it as it is.

I've paid my price. And as for my former comrades; I no longer want to remember their faces. Somewhere inside me sounds a voice of reason, calling me to escape my situation and bury the memory of it. But I know that I no longer have the strength to do so.

I will not stay silent about what has happened. But reading and writing by myself is no longer in my power. I abandoned my eyes after what I've seen.

I am not sure in who's company I linger these days, or why I was ordered to tell my story, but I am sure I know whom it serves.

~ ~ ~

What we followed was an allure. A view, a sight of beauty beyond. Me and my followers were collectors, artists, connoisseurs, not real adventures. It may seem hard to understand, why we, for little more than rumours, sett of on such a long journey.

It had to be more than an allure that urged us. No simple rumour could awake such an eagerness. The sight had bewitched us, long before we had seen him.

Him, the egocentric beholder.

~ ~ ~

It must have been that spell that guided our path, and urged us to ever greater hurry. At the beginning of our journey; that speed at which we went from destination to destination; it could have been explained be our mere excitement. But after few day we only took the most dire of rests.

We did neither know struggle nor tiredness. While the small meals we talked of his promises. And during the short nightly rest, we dreamed of his face.

Him, the heretic of eyes.

~ ~ ~

How long did we were under his spell? He guided our minds. He took the words of resist from our tongues, and the doubts out of our hearts. We no longer questioned it.

Not even after weeks in the wilderness, when on of his servants approached us.

~ ~ ~

He would be the guide for the remainder of our journey. A being born from parchment and silver. Our master wanted to make sure we would reach our destination. And well-behaved we followed his servant.

I can no longer tell how long we followed this servant. There were no more days, only the light of a silver moon. We no longer slept. The promises made us zealots, urging us ever deeper into the forests.

To him, the truthfully marvelous one.

~ ~ ~

I suppose it was a tower, a ruin, which we reached after so long of a journey. We climbed the steps upwards. Higher and higher, until the world vanished beneath our feet.

And here we stood, so short before our goal.

Him.

But the path was blocked. A seal sprawled in front of us. Its sight might have been magnificent for a normal human, no such one would have dared to defile it. But compared to the promises we've had heard, it was no more than a grotesque obstacle.

~ ~ ~

The servant spoke to us. He explained, that almost every thing was ready to break the dreaded seal. But there was still a price to pay. One of us would no be allowed to see the great splendor.

We decided a victim, a blinded on of our companions.

~ ~ ~

The servant took one of the eyes, as a gift for our master. The other one he placed in the centre of the seal. Such commitment, the seal could not withstand.

It broke, and gave way to true beauty.

~ ~ ~

The blinded one cried red tears. Full of despair, for the one thing he ever truly desired would be forever denied to him. We others stepped forward, keen to finally see the promised sight.

~ ~ ~

Before I lived trough this moment, I never once saw something truly worthy of being seen. And I would never again find such a thing.

My eyes had fulfilled their purpose. I needed them no longer. And every other moment after I've seen my master, these eyes gave me nothing more than a nauseating sensation.

~ ~ ~

My mind and my heart are filled with the memory. This is all I need.

The blinded one often came to me, to listen to my pitiful descriptions. But one day his envy grow to large, and he became a danger to me.

~ ~ ~

The other servants must have brought him away. To a place even more removed from humanity then the one where I wait now.

Me and my other companions are being taking care of. Sometimes, when we meet on our aimless walks, we wonder full of excitement, when and where we will be send one day.

~ ~ ~

We wait for the day. The day we will truly serve our master. Our time will come.

For him, the one true beauty.
